Ryder is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Des Moines, IA. This role offers weekly pay and excellent benefits, and provides a stable company environment for career growth. Ryder also provides a clear path for career development and advancement.
Compensation & Bonuses
- Hourly Pay: $28.25 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 per new ASE certification (up to $700)
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 each quarter (four times per year)
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, weekends off
- Hours: Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Vocational or technical certification, or post‑secondary degree (preferred)
- Basic tools, required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work, required)
- Two (2) years or more of combined classroom training and work experience (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
- Some positions require additional screening (employment and education verification, vehicle records check, road test, or customer‑specific background requirements)
Responsibilities
- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
- Perform standard vehicle maintenance and component inspections
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computers when applicable
- Identify root causes of basic failures and perform required repairs
- Replace defective components as instructed
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
- Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation
- Work in accordance with federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
- Perform other support duties to support operations, such as Service Island support
