Job summary

Nextran Truck Centers is seeking an experienced Diesel Engine Technician to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain medium- and heavy-duty trucks in our Engine Shop. You will mentor apprentices, lead projects, and advance your career within a team that values craftsmanship.

The role emphasizes diagnosing engines, performing rebuilds, and maintaining safety and quality. A CDL and ASE credentials are beneficial, with opportunities for growth across a network of dealerships.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of diesel diagnostic experience (10+ years preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; CDL is a plus.
• Master Technician certifications in multiple areas are preferred.
• ASE Certifications are a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Intermediate computer skills and ability to learn dealership software.
• Excellent communication, organizational and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines and related systems.
• Perform complete engine and transmission rebuilds.
• Complete preventative maintenance and major mechanical repairs.
• Accurately document repairs and diagnostic findings.
• Communicate with Parts and Service teams to ensure repairs stay on schedule.
• Identify additional maintenance or safety concerns for customers.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow manufacturer repair procedures and dealership standards.
• Stay current on OEM technical bulletins and industry best practices.
• Mentor apprentice technicians and help lead the team when needed.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

• Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly, 75 lbs. frequently, and over 100 lbs. occasionally with assistance or appropriate equipment.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, and shop equipment.
• Work above shoulder height and underneath vehicles using creepers or lifting equipment.
• Enter and exit truck cabs and access engine compartments safely.
