Job summary

Norfolk Truck Center is seeking an experienced Diesel Technician who is also a Virginia State Inspector to join our team in Norfolk, VA. The role focuses on Virginia safety inspections for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, while collaborating with the service team on diesel repairs and maintenance.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered commercial vehicles, perform preventive maintenance, and document inspection results.

Qualifications

• Virginia State Safety Inspector certification required
• Experience inspecting light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles preferred
• Diesel technician or commercial truck repair experience valued

Responsibilities

• Perform Virginia State Safety Inspections on light- and heavy-duty vehicles
• Inspect vehicles according to Virginia safety inspection requirements and regulations
• Accurately document inspection results and communicate needed repairs
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered commercial vehicles
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine service
• Complete brake, steering, suspension, and other related repairs
• Work with service advisors and other technicians to ensure repairs are completed accurately and efficiently
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Assist with other shop and service department needs as required

Job description

Norfolk Truck Center is looking for an experienced Diesel Technician who is also a Virginia State Inspector to join our team!

This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys a variety of work and takes pride in keeping commercial vehicles safe, compliant, and on the road. Our Virginia State Inspector will perform Virginia safety inspections on both light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, while also working alongside our service team on a variety of diesel repair and maintenance needs.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform Virginia State Safety Inspections on light- and heavy-duty vehicles
• Inspect vehicles according to Virginia safety inspection requirements and regulations
• Accurately document inspection results and communicate needed repairs
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered commercial vehicles
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine service
• Complete brake, steering, suspension, and other related repairs
• Work with service advisors and other technicians to ensure repairs are completed accurately and efficiently
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Assist with other shop and service department needs as required

What We’re Looking For:

• Current Virginia State Safety Inspector certification for the appropriate vehicle classifications
• Experience inspecting light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles
• Diesel technician or commercial truck repair experience
• Strong mechanical skills
• Ability to accurately identify safety concerns and needed repairs
• Dependable, detail-oriented, and safety-minded
• Ability to work independently while also being part of a team
• A valid driver's license
• Additional certifications or experience with commercial trucks and diesel systems are a plus
