Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. in Landover, MD is hiring a mid-level Diesel Technician. The role offers weekly pay, comprehensive benefits after 30 days, and a path for advancement.

Expect a 7:00 am–3:30 pm shift Tuesday–Saturday with first-shift duties on heavy-duty vehicles and state-of-the-art diagnostics. Eligible candidates earn an hourly wage of $28.00, with bonuses for ASE certifications and quarterly incentives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or technical certification preferred.
• Basic tools required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
• Two years or more of classroom training or work experience in required areas.
• Valid CDL Class A preferred; must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Must pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance.
• Diagnoses mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer where applicable.
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and performs repairs as required.
• Replaces defective components as instructed.
• Performs facility maintenance duties.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
• Complies with safety, DOT, MOT guidelines; supports operations as needed.

• Certification Bonus of $100 for each New ASE Certification Obtained up to $700

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A,preferred
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable

• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
