Job summary

Ryder is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Akron, Ohio to support heavy-duty vehicle maintenance and repair in a modern shop environment. The role offers weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a clear pathway for skill advancement.

You will diagnose and service diesel engines, perform routine maintenance, and work with state-of-the-art diagnostics. Monday–Friday schedule, first shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with opportunities for bonuses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or Technical Certification, post-secondary degree or technical certifications preferred.
• Basic tools, required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires).
• Two or more years of classroom training and work experience preferred.
• Valid CDL Class A preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties on heavy-duty vehicles.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance.
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs.
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic equipment where applicable.
• Identifies root cause of basic failures and performs repairs as required.
• Replaces defective components as instructed.
• Performs facility maintenance duties.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
• Ensures compliance with safety, DOT, MOT guidelines and related requirements.
• Performs other support duties to aid operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred


• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred

• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:




• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required




• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred


• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred

• This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:




• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire


• Pass a Ryder Drug Test


• Pass a DOT physical


• Pass a Ryder road test


• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Important Note: Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available


• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)


• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
