Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America is seeking a diesel Class 8 vehicle mechanic to support maintenance and repair of milk trucks and trailers, ensuring optimal operating condition. Duties include responding to requests, performing repairs, and conducting inspections to meet safety standards.

Qualified candidates have a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years as a diesel mechanic, and welding experience (arc and MIG). Excellent reading of inspection reports and clear communication are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• At least two years experience as a diesel Class 8 vehicle mechanic.
• Welding experience required (arc and MIG).
• Ability to read and understand driver inspection reports.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to use personal hand tools for heavy equipment.

Responsibilities

• Respond to maintenance requests from drivers, safety coordinator, DOT coordinator, supervisors, and fleet manager.
• Repair or replace brakes, steering, springs, air bags, lights, filters, transmissions, tires, and other equipment.
• Conduct periodic inspections and diagnose problems, ensuring safe operation.
• Verify DOT compliance and state regulations.
• Welding experience used for maintenance tasks.

Our drivers transport raw milk from farm to processing plants. We are passionate about the farmer-owners, the dairy industry, and supplying consumers with safe and nutritious products.

Shift: Tentative: Monday - Friday (8am -5pm)

Rotating On Call

General Purpose:

To support the maintenance and repair of milk trucks and trailers ensuring that equipment is available and in optimal operating condition.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responds to maintenance requests from drivers, safety coordinator, DOT coordinator, supervisors, and fleet manager.
• Maintains, repairs or replaces brakes; steering mechanisms; springs; air bags; lights; air conditioners; water, fuel, oil, and air filters; coolant and chemicals; transmissions; tire air pressure; tire tread; chassis; brakes; drive lines; u-joints; air tanks; batteries; air lines; power cords; wipers; windshields; mirrors; engines; drive train components or other equipment as necessary.
• Conducts periodic inspections, diagnoses problems, and eliminating unsafe operating conditions.
• Verifies equipment is in compliance with DOT specifications and state regulations
• Experienced in arc and mig welding equipment.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Must have high school diploma or GED
• At least two years experience as a diesel Class 8 vehicle mechanic
• Must be experience in welding

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must be able to read and understand driver inspection reports
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Must be able to provide and use personal hand tools appropriate for working on heavy equipment
• Must have knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Must be able to lift 75 lbs
• Must be able to pass a physical demands analysis
