Job summary

GFL - Sewer Technologies Division seeks a skilled mechanic to diagnose and repair Diesel and CNG trucks, lead brake and engine inspections, and mentor junior technicians. You will prioritize repairs, review write-ups, and coordinate schedules while complying with safety rules and DOT/OSHA regulations.

Strong diagnostic software skills, ability to read schematics, and willingness to train are essential. CDL is preferred and ASE certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and related regulations.
• Brake safety certificate and 609 A/C system certification required.
• ASE certifications preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret detailed schematics and manuals.
• Experience with diagnostic software; computer literate and willing to be trained in software systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair Diesel and CNG trucks, including engines, electrical, propane systems, hydraulics and fuel systems.
• Lead inspections of brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering, wheel bearings and other parts.
• Mentor level B and C mechanics; prioritize repairs for efficiency and timely completion.
• Oversee review of mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedules.
• Perform DOT and brake inspections on all vehicles.
• Complete reports and admin duties; order parts as needed.
• Ensure safe working conditions and regulatory compliance.
• Interpret electrical and diagnostic schematics; participate in training and skill development.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.

• Independently lead inspections of brake systems, all engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to level B and C mechanics.
• Prioritize repairs to maximize efficiency and timely completion of work orders.
• Oversee the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedule.

Education, Training, Experience And Licensing/Certification Requirements

• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations.
• Must have a Brake safety certificate and 609 A/C system certification.
• ASE Certifications preferred.
• Ability to understand and interpret detailed schematics and manuals.
• Communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
• Experience using diagnostic software. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
• Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, or the willingness and ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.
• 5+ years of diesel/CNG maintenance experience.

Physical/Mental Demands

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance.
• Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required.
• Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to operate trucks and other equipment used as needed.
• Ability to use a computer and related devices, such as a keyboard or mouse or other related equipment, throughout the workday while seated at a desk or workstation.
• Ability to climb ladders, bend or stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to reach above shoulders and lift to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
