Job summary

Silvi Materials is seeking a Diesel Mechanic for the 2nd shift at our Logan, NJ location. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy‑duty diesel vehicles and equipment, including engines, transmissions, axles, and related systems.

Responsibilities include electrical work, diagnostics, welding, and road service as needed. A valid CDL or PA license is preferred and industry certifications are valued. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of fleet/transportation repair & maintenance experience
• Valid Driver's License required

• OSHA/DOT safety regulations familiarity
• CDL class A preferred

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and professional work environment
• Diagnose and perform preventative maintenance on heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment
• Disassemble, repair, rebuild, and replace diesel engine components and related sub-assemblies
• Perform electrical work including wiring and starter rebuilding
• Repair/adjust electrical sensors, EGR valves, and computerized systems per standards
• Diagnose fuel management, ignition, and engine timing systems; change tires
• Weld broken assemblies or parts as needed
• Use, store, safeguard, and track materials and tools
• Keep shop and work area clean and organized
• Prepare time/materials/work reports and records
• Learn to operate diagnostic equipment
• Respond to road service calls with company vehicle

So what does a Silvi Materials Diesel/Truck Mechanic do?

• Maintain a safe and professional working environment
• Diagnose and perform preventative maintenance for heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
• Remove, repair, rebuild from start to finish and/or replace assemblies (diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, axles) sub-assemblies (cylinder heads, oil pumps, fan belts, generators, starters, gauges) and other parts (tie rods, drag links, ball joints, brake linings, bearings) on trucks and equipment.
• Perform electrical work including wiring systems and starter rebuilding.
• Repair and/or adjust electrical sensors, E. G. R. valves, and computerized electrical systems according to automotive and Federal Government Clean Air Standards.
• Diagnose computerized: fuel management systems, ignition systems and engine timing to determine and perform needed repairs. Changes tires.
• Weld broken assemblies, subassemblies and/or other parts, as required.
• Uses, stores, records, safeguards and properly uses equipment, materials, parts and other supplies.
• Maintain shop and work area in a clean and organized manner.
• Prepare reports and records of time spent, materials, parts used and work completed.
• Required to learn to utilize various types of diagnostic equipment.
• Respond and handle road service calls as needed with the use of a company service vehicle.

Qualifications Required as a Silvi Materials Diesel Mechanic:

• Fleet/transportation, repair and maintenance experience of preferably at least 3 years for a medium to large size company.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Possess a working knowledge of Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to read and understand maintenance and parts manuals, maintenance and wiring diagrams, schematics and other written instructions related to the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge and experience with repair and maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles
• Knowledge and experience with safety regulations, i.e. OSHA, DOT as they apply to the operation
• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs in a garage and/or the field, in conformance with the specifications contained in the applicable maintenance manuals, diagrams and/or instructions.
• Possesses a sense of urgency and ownership
• Excellent follow-up skills with the ability to complete assignments/projects through to completion.
• Possesses analytical, problem solving and customer service sills.
• A valid CDL (A class) license preferred.
• A valid PA Inspection License A+ preferred.
• A valid Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification.
• Certification under the federal Department of Transportation guidelines for brake adjustment and repair.
