Job summary

Silvi Materials in Logan, NJ is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment on the 2nd shift. You'll diagnose, service and rebuild components, and support road service calls as needed.

This role requires 3+ years of fleet repair experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to read manuals and schematics. The position offers strong benefits, overtime, and a generous signing bonus depending on ranking.

Qualifications

Overview

Title of Position: Diesel Mechanic

Shifts: 2nd Shift – 4:00 pm Start Time (+ Shift Differential!)

Location: Logan, NJ

Pay Range: Mechanic Ranking A: $42-46/hour; B: $34-42/hour; C: $27-34/hour

Signing Bonus: A: $15,000 (paid in $3,000 installments at 30, 90, 180, 270, and 365 days); B: $10,000 (paid in $2,000 installments at 30, 90, 180, 270, 365 days); C: $4,000 (paid in two $2,000 installments at 90 and 180 days)

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and professional working environment.
  • Diagnose and perform preventative maintenance for heavy‑duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Remove, repair, rebuild from start to finish and/or replace assemblies (diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, axles), sub‑assemblies (cylinder heads, oil pumps, fan belts, generators, starters, gauges), and other parts (tie rods, drag links, ball joints, brake linings, bearings) on trucks and equipment.
  • Perform electrical work including wiring systems and starter rebuilding.
  • Repair and/or adjust electrical sensors, EGR valves, and computerized electrical systems according to automotive and Federal Government Clean Air Standards.
  • Diagnose computerized fuel management systems, ignition systems and engine timing to determine and perform needed repairs; change tires as required.
  • Weld broken assemblies, sub‑assemblies and/or other parts, as required.
  • Use, store, record, safeguard and properly use equipment, materials, parts and other supplies.
  • Maintain shop and work area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Prepare reports and records of time spent, materials, parts used and work completed.
  • Learn to utilize various types of diagnostic equipment.
  • Respond and handle road service calls as needed with the use of a company service vehicle.
Qualifications
  • Fleet/transportation, repair and maintenance experience of at least 3 years for a medium to large size company.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance and parts manuals, maintenance and wiring diagrams, schematics and other written instructions related to the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience with heavy‑duty vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, DOT) applicable to the operation.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repairs in a garage and/or field, in conformance with specifications contained in the applicable maintenance manuals, diagrams and/or instructions.
  • Sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Excellent follow‑up skills with the ability to complete assignments/projects through to completion.
  • Analytical, problem‑solving and customer service skills.
  • Valid CDL (Class A) license preferred.
  • Valid PA Inspection License A+ preferred.
  • Valid Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification.
  • Certification under federal Department of Transportation guidelines for brake adjustment and repair.
Physical Demands
