Job summary

Interstate Power Systems in Cedar Rapids, IA, is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to diagnose and repair diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment across field and shop assignments. You’ll work on Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar (CAT), and other major engines, plus Carrier transport refrigeration, generators, and power-generation systems.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of diesel/heavy-equipment repair experience, strong mechanical and electrical diagnostics, and the ability to work

Qualifications

• 3+ years of diesel, truck, heavy-equipment, refrigeration, or power-generation repair experience.
• Strong diesel engine troubleshooting and repair background.
• Experience with Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar (CAT), or other major heavy-duty diesel engine platforms.
• Experience with Carrier transport refrigeration systems, Generator and power-generation equipment, Heavy-duty trucks and diesel equipment, Electrical and electronic diagnostic systems, Preventative maintenance and engine repair.
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems rather than simply replace parts.
• Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a shop environment.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
• Technical degree, manufacturer training, or industry certifications preferred.
• Dependable, safety-minded, and committed to quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar (CAT), and other engines and related systems.
• Service and repair Carrier transport refrigeration units.
• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on generator and power-generation equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, and other equipment-related issues.
• Complete preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled service.
• Perform both shop repairs and field service at customer locations.
• Use diagnostic equipment and service information to identify root causes and complete repairs efficiently.
• Communicate clearly with customers, service advisors, and other technicians.
• Maintain accurate service documentation and repair records.

Overview

Interstate Power Systems is looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our Cedar Rapids team. We’re looking for a well-rounded mechanic who is comfortable diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment and is interested in working across the wide variety of equipment our customers rely on.

This is a great opportunity for a technician with experience working on Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar (CAT), or other major heavy-duty diesel engines , along with Carrier transport refrigeration, generators, heavy-duty trucks, and related diesel-powered equipment.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines and heavy-duty equipment
• Troubleshoot and repair Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar (CAT), and other heavy-duty diesel engines and related systems
• Service and repair Carrier transport refrigeration units
• Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on generator and power-generation equipment
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, and other equipment-related issues
• Complete preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled service
• Perform both shop repairs and field service at customer locations
• Use diagnostic equipment and service information to identify root causes and complete repairs efficiently
• Communicate clearly with customers, service advisors, and other technicians
• Maintain accurate service documentation and repair recordsComplete repairs according to safety and quality standards

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of diesel, truck, heavy-equipment, refrigeration, or power-generation repair experience preferred
• Strong diesel engine troubleshooting and repair background
• Experience with Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar (CAT), or other major heavy-duty diesel engine platforms strongly preferred
• Experience with one or more of the following is a plus:
  • Carrier transport refrigeration systems
  • Generator and power-generation equipment
  • Heavy-duty trucks and diesel equipment
  • Electrical and electronic diagnostic systems
  • Preventative maintenance and engine repair
• Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems rather than simply replace parts
• Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a shop environment
