Job summary

Waste Management, Inc. (WM) is seeking a Diesel Mechanic at our Elgin, SC hauling site.

You will service and repair trucks and equipment that support more than 20 million customers nationwide, with a focus on safety and quality maintenance. The position offers a starting hourly rate of $28–$30, a stable schedule (Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–8pm) and comprehensive benefits including healthcare, tool and boot allowances, and 401(k) matching.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to perform physical requirements with/without accommodations
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and physical

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts.
  • Perform work within our Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Safety checks on vehicles to protect employees and communities.
  • Complete required paperwork documenting parts usage and repair times.
  • Assist senior Mechanics in project work.
  • Review or assign repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

The hours and location you’ll work in as a Diesel Mechanic with WM:

Each day you’ll fix the trucks and equipment that service over 20 millioncustomers across the USA. As a Diesel Mechanic you can take pride in watching atruck roll out of the shop, knowing your local community will be supported byyour hard work. You’ll beusing modern tools and procedures to deliver exceptional maintenance on bothdiesel equipment and, at some locations, on our growing fleet of CNG trucks.

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and airsystems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts.
  • Perform your work within our Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Safety checks on vehicles – the safety of every single employee and thepeople in our communities is our number one priority
  • Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage, and accounting forrepair times.
  • Assisting senior Mechanics in the completion of project work.
  • Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver VehicleInspection Reports.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHAStandards and perform all work in accordance with established safetyprocedures.
What do you need to be considered for the role of Diesel Mechanic:
  • 2 years of relevant work experience
