Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking a Vehicle Maintenance Repair Technician to perform inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on our fleet to keep trucks safe and operational. You will diagnose issues, replace components, and maintain documentation while adhering to safety standards.

The role requires reading repair manuals and schematics, with experience on heavy trucks and diesel engines; welding experience is a plus. DOT-related tasks and customer-facing duties are part of the job.

Qualifications

  • Experience using repair manuals and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot or repair heavy trucks.
  • Experience repairing and performing maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engines; welding experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain DOT medical card as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles per company schedules and DVIRs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues and perform repairs.
  • Inspect, repair, and overhaul vehicle systems (electrical, air, brake).
  • Check and change fluids and filters.
  • Perform roadside repairs when qualified.
  • Maintain records of time, orders, and parts usage.
  • Complete yearly DOT inspection forms.
  • Interact professionally with internal/external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Vehicle Maintenance Repair Technicians are responsible for performing inspections, diagnostic testing, repairs, and maintenance on the vehicle fleet to ensure trucks are safe and operational.

Responsibilities of Position:
  • Perform repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules and/or from driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues and make necessary repairs
  • Complete adjustments, repairs, and component replacements to vehicles, equipment, and related components
  • Check, fill, and/or change appropriate fluids and filters
  • Inspect, repair, and/or overhaul vehicle support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems
  • Perform roadside repairs, when qualified, for the type of vehicle operated
  • Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas
  • Professionally interact with internal and external customers with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Complete yearly DOT inspection forms
  • Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders, and parts usage) on the computer/tablet
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • This position will not manage employees
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
  • Attention to detail and ability to stay organized
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, diagrams, etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork (hard copies or electronically)
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:
  • Experience using repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams, and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair
  • Experience repairing and performing maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engines and welding experience preferred
  • In-depth mechanical aptitude and knowledge of truck components and systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of Lock/Tag Out procedures or the ability the learn those procedures
  • Experience with Regen System
  • Ability to obtain DOT medical card as needed
Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:
  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Continuously stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Frequently climbing and/or balancing
  • Rarely sitting
  • Continuously standing/walking
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
