Job summary

National Tank & Equipment is seeking a Mechanic in Pittsburgh, PA to inspect, troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, pumps and related rental equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance and document findings to ensure readiness for rental.

Standard hours are Monday–Friday with possible overtime and on-call. Ideal candidates have 2–4 years diesel mechanic experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to read service documentation.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of diesel mechanic experience in engines, maintenance or related systems.
• Valid driver’s license with 3+ years of fairly clean record; DOT physical required.
• Ability to read equipment information and complete service documentation.
• Must provide personal tools and demonstrate mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Inspect pumps, engines, tanks and related rental equipment and document condition.
• Complete preventive maintenance, repairs and functional checks.
• Use work orders to record labor, parts, findings and completed work.
• Maintain tools, service vehicles and work areas in good order.
• Diagnose mechanical, fuel, electrical and equipment-performance concerns.
• Perform field service and communicate findings, repair needs and status.
• Verify repairs and confirm equipment is safe and ready for service.
• Escalate complex issues and learn from senior mechanics and resources.
• Work with service, operations and yard teams to support rental readiness.
• Provide professional, respectful support at customer locations.
• Participate in training and skills development.
• Follow PPE, lifting, tool, environmental, driving and site-safety requirements.
• Stop and report unsafe conditions, equipment damage, spills or hazards promptly.

What You Will Do

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2-4 years of diesel mechanic experience in diesel engines, industrial maintenance, automotive repair, heavy equipment, pumps, construction equipment, or related mechanical systems.
• Ability to read equipment information and complete service documentation.
• Must have a valid driver's license for more than 3 years with a moderately clean driving record; DOT physical required.
• Possess or can obtain and maintain a valid TWIC card.
• Must have hands-on field service experience and strong customer service skills.
• Must provide personal tools and demonstrate mechanical aptitude, including the safe use of hand, power, and diagnostic tools.

Job Location & Schedule

This position is based at our Pittsburg location and requires local field service travel. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the possibility of overtime and participation in a rotating on-call schedule.
