Job summary

Davis Cartage Co. is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our Corunna, Michigan fleet maintenance team. You will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial trucks and diesel-powered equipment to ensure safe, reliable fleet operations.

The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of diesel experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a focus on safety and DOT compliance. This is a full-time, in-person position with competitive benefits and steady hours.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of diesel mechanic or related mechanical experience preferred.
• Experience repairing commercial trucks and diesel engines.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
• Knowledge of diesel engine systems, drivetrain components, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems.
• Experience using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and shop equipment.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
• Strong attention to safety and DOT compliance.

Responsibilities

• Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and engine performance issues.
• Inspecting and repairing diesel engines used in commercial trucks.
• Disassembling engines to identify worn or damaged components.
• Repairing or replacing pistons, bearings, gears, valves, bushings, and related engine components.
• Performing preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections.
• Using precision measuring instruments and specialized diagnostic equipment.
• Operating machine tools, engine lathes, and boring equipment.
• Welding and cutting components using arc welding and flame cutting equipment when required.
• Ensuring all repairs meet DOT regulations and company safety standards.
• Working independently and as part of a professional maintenance team.

Physical Requirements

• Climb under trailers and heavy‑duty equipment
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Perform repairs while standing, kneeling, bending, crawling, and lifting throughout the shift
• Operate hand and foot controls safely

Compensation and Schedule

$27.00- $28.00 per hour based on experience

Full‑time position

Monday through Friday

5:00 AM - 5:00 PM

2:00 PM - 2:00 AM
