Job description

National Salvage and Service is seeking to hire a Heavy Equipment Mechanic which is based at our DeRidder, LA location.

National Salvage & Service is a sustainable company, we recycle nearly all the material we salvage. This practice not only keeps these materials out of landfills, improving the environment; it also saves our customers significant amounts of money, reducing the cost of a job and adding to profit.

National is a leading wholesale provider of used railroad ties and new railroad ties and other treated hardwood railroad track products, as well as recycled utility poles.

Job Functions

  • Work on heavy equipment, trucks, and service vehicles
  • Maintain knowledge and adherence to all safety policies
  • Conduct vehicle/equipment inspections and diagnostic tests; identify and resolve worn, broken, or damaged parts
  • Identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system problems and consider possible solutions.
  • Maintain vehicles/equipment using preventive maintenance procedures that meets or exceeds industry standards
  • Maintain shop equipment per operating instructions; troubleshooting and repairing or coordinate repairs; maintaining supplies
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment
  • Greases, oils, and lubricates components during preventive maintenance service
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company Policy, and performs all work per established safety procedures

Qualifications:

  • Deep working knowledge of Hydraulics and Diesel vehicles
  • Need experience using mig and stick welding processes
  • Must have skills in cutting with torches and plasma cutters
  • Minimum of 2 years of Diesel Mechanic Experience
