Job summary

United Rentals is seeking a Diesel Mechanic (Service Tech II) to perform maintenance and minor repairs on rental equipment in a safety‑driven environment. You’ll document work, demonstrate equipment to customers, and assist with parts delivery in a dynamic service department.

A strong customer focus and teamwork are essential. Requirements include a HS diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and 1–2 years of relevant experience or trade school background.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of experience repairing/maintaining vehicles or equipment or trade school graduate.
• Owns tools applicable to position and can perform basic repairs.
• Strong customer service, teamwork and verbal/written communication skills.
• Basic understanding of schematics and diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, preventive maintenance and repair of rental equipment and tools across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems.
• Maintain complete work orders and documentation daily.
• Demonstrate equipment to customers and assist with pick-up and delivery as needed.
• Support other duties as assigned by the service department.

What you'll do:

• Perform maintenance, preventive maintenance and repair of rental equipment and tools involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems
• Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) in a complete and timely manner on a daily basis
• Demonstrate a wide array of complex equipment for customers
• Assist with pick-up and delivery of equipment & parts
• Other duties assigned as needed

Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• 1-2 years of experience repairing/maintaining vehicles and equipment; or trade school graduate
• Must own tools applicable to position
• Basic understanding of schematics and diagrams
• Superior customer service, teamwork and verbal/written communication skills
• Ability to frequently lift items up to 45 lbs.

This position is deemed Safety Sensitive for purposes of United Rentals’ policies and procedures.
