Job summary

Ryder is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician in Lewiston, Maine. This role offers a stable work environment with weekly pay, excellent benefits, and opportunities for certification bonuses. Second shift hours run 3:30 pm – 12:00 am, Monday through Friday with weekends off.

Qualified candidates have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, vocational certification, and basic tools. CDL Class A preferred; will be able to obtain CDL within 6 months if required.

Qualifications

• Requires mechanical repair aptitude and hands-on experience in diesel vehicles.
• Experience with preventative maintenance, oil changes, brakes, tires.
• Two+ years of training and/or work in required experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair tasks on heavy-duty vehicles.
• Conduct standard vehicle maintenance and inspections.
• Diagnose mechanical/electronic problems using diagnostic tools.
• Perform preventive maintenance and replace defective components as instructed.
• Interact with drivers to determine the nature of the issue and task.
• Adhere to safety, DOT, and company guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
• This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Important Note: Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicableIdentifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Replaces defective components as instructed
• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
