Job summary

Manatt’s is seeking a Technician II at our Eastern Iowa Asphalt plant in Blue Grass. The role involves independent and team-based work performing DOT inspections, diagnosing, and repairing heavy vehicles and equipment, including brakes, air, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

You will use manufacturer diagnostic software, replace parts, and perform welding as needed. A Class B CDL is preferred; overtime is common, and the candidate should manage parts availability and shop space effectively.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of major truck components, diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Ability to use manufacturer’s computer software to diagnose and repair electronic systems.
• Strong communication, analytical and basic computer skills.
• Must have own tools and acceptable driving record.
• Class B CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform DOT inspections and diagnose/repair complex lighting, air, power steering and other systems.
• Replace brake parts (disc/drum) and engine-related components.
• Perform basic welding functions for maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Communicate repairs with leaders and coordinate parts availability and space planning.
• Works overtime on a regular basis and stays flexible with schedule.

Job description

A Technician II works independently and as a team routinely performing DOT inspections, replacing parts and utilizing computer diagnoses systems on semi tractors, trailers, pickups & many other large heavy vehicles and equipment.

• Routinely demonstrates the ability to perform all skills of Apprentice and Technician I, performs DOT inspections, replaces disc & drum brake parts, diagnoses & repairs complex lighting issues, diagnoses & repairs DOT air systems, A/C systems, & power steering systems, replaces engine-related parts such as water pumps, thermostats, EGR valves, & air compressors, performs clutch jobs & suspension rebuilds, and utilizes basic computer diagnoses systems.
• Performs basic welding functions related to maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Effectively communicates with leaders on repairs needed.
• Has a basic understanding of logistical decision making for repairs i.e.: parts availability, shop space, and time management.
• Stays on task and understands the need for a flexible schedule.
