Job summary

Dairy Challenge is seeking a dedicated mechanic to support maintenance and repair of trucks and trailers. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose minor issues, and collaborate with drivers to resolve problems. The role requires reading and writing English and adherence to DOT and safety guidelines.

This position runs a first shift from 7am to 5pm, with every other Saturday work. Relevant licenses or Certifications may be required. EOE/AAP/Disabled/Veteran.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1–3 years of mechanic/maintenance experience preferred.
  • Certification/license such as Mechanic certification, CDL, refrigeration license or similar may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic vehicle preventive maintenance, component replacements and minor repairs.
  • Inspect, repair and replace brakes, steering mechanisms, springs, air bags, lights and related systems.
  • Use shop management system and other electronic systems.
  • Diagnose minor mechanical and electronic problems with diagnostic tools.
  • Identify root causes of failures and perform repairs as needed.
  • Interact with drivers to determine nature of complaints.
  • Adhere to safety, DOT, and corporate compliance guidelines.
  • Complete work orders and paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Assist in improving processes with a continuous improvement mindset.

Job description

Support the maintenance and repair of trucks and/or trailers ensuring that equipment is available and in optimal operating condition. Work with the assistance of other mechanics or supervisors when performing technical and diagnostic repairs.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform basic vehicle and preventive maintenance, component replacements, and minor repairs
  • Maintain, repair, inspect, and/or replace brakes, steering mechanisms, springs, air bags, lights, air conditioners, water, fuel, oil, air filters, coolant and chemicals, transmissions, tire air pressure, tire tread, tires, chassis, drive lines, u-joints, air tanks, batteries, air lines, power cords, wipers, mirrors, drive train components, or other equipment as necessary
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Use shop management system and other electronic systems available
  • Diagnose minor mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computer when applicable
  • Identify root cause of “minor” failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
  • Interact with drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
  • Work in accordance with all federal, state, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT)
  • Complete work orders and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining high quality standards in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
  • Respond to accidents or inoperable vehicles to transport equipment back to shop for repair, if appropriate
  • Keep management informed of safety, operator, and equipment observations and concerns
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes, utilizing continuous improvement mindset
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area which may include wearing of all required personal protective equipment in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of mechanic, maintenance, or related experience
  • Certification and/or License – Mechanic certification, CDL license, refrigeration license, or other relevant certifications or licenses may be required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Skill with engines, anti-lock braking system, transmission, diagnostic equipment, and software
  • Knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations
  • Able to read and understand driver inspection reports
  • Able to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner
  • Able to operate tools, equipment, and peripheral accessories
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to perform tasks and duties without constant supervision
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to follow directions
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
