Job summary

Empire Livestock LLC. seeks a skilled auto/mechanic to maintain and repair trucks and trailers, ensuring equipment is available and in top condition. The role works with other mechanics and supervisors on diagnostics and repairs during a first shift 7am-5pm, with every other Saturday.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 1–3 years in mechanic work, mechanic/CDL/refrigeration licenses as applicable. English proficiency and ability to read reports, follow DOT guidelines, and work in a team

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanic certification or license may be required.
  • CDL and refrigeration licenses are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance, component replacements, and minor repairs.
  • Inspect and repair brakes, steering, tires, HVAC, and related systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical/electrical problems using diagnostic tools.
  • Complete work orders accurately and on time, with SOP adherence.
  • Interact with drivers to clarify issues and determine needed repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and comply with DOT rules.

Job description

Support the maintenance and repair of trucks and/or trailers ensuring that equipment is available and in optimal operating condition. Work with the assistance of other mechanics or supervisors when performing technical and diagnostic repairs.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform basic vehicle and preventive maintenance, component replacements, and minor repairs
  • Maintain, repair, inspect, and/or replace brakes, steering mechanisms, springs, air bags, lights, air conditioners, water, fuel, oil, air filters, coolant and chemicals, transmissions, tire air pressure, tire tread, tires, chassis, drive lines, u-joints, air tanks, batteries, air lines, power cords, wipers, mirrors, drive train components, or other equipment as necessary
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Use shop management system and other electronic systems available
  • Diagnose minor mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computer when applicable
  • Identify root cause of “minor” failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
  • Interact with drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
  • Work in accordance with all federal, state, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT)
  • Complete work orders and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining high quality standards in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
  • Respond to accidents or inoperable vehicles to transport equipment back to shop for repair, if appropriate
  • Keep management informed of safety, operator, and equipment observations and concerns
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes, utilizing continuous improvement mindset
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area which may include wearing of all required personal protective equipment in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of mechanic, maintenance, or related experience
  • Certification and/or License – Mechanic certification, CDL license, refrigeration license, or other relevant certifications or licenses may be required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Skill with engines, anti-lock braking system, transmission, diagnostic equipment, and software
  • Knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations
  • Able to read and understand driver inspection reports
  • Able to assist other mechanics on more complicated repairs in a safe and useful manner
  • Able to operate tools, equipment, and peripheral accessories
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Able to perform tasks and duties without constant supervision
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to follow directions
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
