Job summary

Ryder System in Edison, New Jersey is seeking a Mid-Level Diesel Technician to maintain and repair heavy-duty vehicles using state-of-the-art diagnostics on a first shift. You will work with drivers to diagnose issues and perform repairs efficiently.

You’ll receive medical/dental/vision after 30 days, PTO from day 1, a 401(k) match, tuition assistance, paid training, and a safety‑first work environment as you advance your ASE certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or technical Certification/degree preferred.
• Valid CDL Class A preferred.
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire.
• Basic tools required.
• 2+ years of combined classroom training and work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance and inspections.
• Diagnoses mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer.
• Identifies root cause of failures and performs repairs.
• Replaces defective components as instructed.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of the complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System and maintains electronic documentation.
• Adheres to safety and regulatory guidelines (DOT/MOT).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
• Basic tools, required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including:
• Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience in required experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A,preferred
• This position requires for you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder Drug Test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check and a road test; and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Performs facility maintenance duties
• Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task
• Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Works in accordance with all federal/ provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Performs other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to Service Island support
