Job summary

Penn Tank Lines is seeking a full-time Diesel Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair heavy-duty trucks to support safe, reliable fleet operations. This role suits someone who takes a hands-on approach, follows established shop procedures closely, and delivers consistent quality across routine maintenance and repairs.

The position requires diagnosing, repairing major components, documenting service actions, and collaborating with a team to ensure fleet uptime.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Hands-on mechanical experience with heavy-duty trucks preferred.
  • Ability to follow shop procedures and maintain thorough documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostics, inspections, and preventive maintenance per shop procedures and safety standards.
  • Repair or replace major components including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct test drives and adjust systems based on performance and operating requirements.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation in line with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Support shop operations by keeping equipment ready and ensuring fleet uptime.
  • Coordinate repairs with team to maintain consistent service quality.

  • Base Pay $27.00 - $35.00 / Hour

About the Role

Penn Tank Lines is hiring a full-time Diesel Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair heavy-duty trucks in support of safe, reliable fleet operations. This role is well suited for someone who takes a careful, hands-on approach to mechanical work, follows established shop procedures closely, and delivers consistent quality across recurring maintenance and repair tasks.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, inspections, and preventive maintenance following established shop procedures and safety standards
  • Repair or replace major components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
  • Conduct test drives and make system adjustments based on performance standards and operating requirements
  • Complete accurate, timely service documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Support overall shop operations by maintaining equipment readiness, following safety policies, and contributing to reliable fleet uptime
  • Work closely with team members to coordinate repairs and maintain consistent service quality
Requirements
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using shop tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Careful, thorough approach to inspections, repairs, and maintenance documentation
  • Ability to follow established maintenance procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards
  • Comfort working on recurring service tasks with steady attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based shop environment
Other Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have a basic set of personal tools; additional shop equipment is provided
  • Able to work in a shop environment that may not be climate-controlled
  • 5+ years of diesel or tractor-trailer maintenance experience preferred
  • CDL Class B license preferred
  • Tank trailer and HM183 knowledge preferred
  • DOT Brake Certification preferred
  • Vocational or technical training preferred
