Job summary

CPKC in Saint Paul, MN seeks a Laborer to move, fuel, clean, test, and perform basic locomotive repairs in a fast-paced, safety-oriented setting. Ideal candidates are mechanically inclined and enjoy outdoor work.

Responsibilities include fueling locomotives, inspecting and repairing components, servicing cabs, testing electrical devices and brakes, and maintaining a clean, orderly shop environment while following regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general equivalency.
• Valid driver's license is required, CDL Preferred.
• Minimum 1 year working on or around heavy equipment.
• Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions.
• Ability to pass the required written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, rules, regulations and other written or printed material in English.
• Dedication to safety and ability to complete work within guidelines/rules.

• Perform inspections and repairs on all Locomotives, fuel tanks, cab equipment and evaluate parts for reuse or replacement.
• Service locomotive cabs which include cleaning cab walls, locomotive toilets, windows and floors.
• Test all cab electrical devices, set-up cab brakes as per requirements of the train operations, test all safety devices and ensure crew to crew forms are completed.
• Clean and sweep shop floors, remove snow around doors and keep the shop area in an orderly fashion

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Laborer will move, fuel, clean, test and perform basic repairs on the locomotives in a fast paced, safety-oriented environment in compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined and enjoys working outdoors.
