Job description

The Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic’s primary responsibility is for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gas/diesel engines and all types of equipment used in construction, agriculture, and transportation. This position requires strong electrical and mechanical aptitude along with excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions include:

  • Perform both routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines and heavy equipment, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks. Conduct thorough inspections of equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Follow manufacturer's guidelines and technical manuals to ensure proper repair and maintenance procedures. Perform testing of all repaired items.
Qualifications & Requirements: Education and Work Experience
  • Vocational education in mechanics, machine tool technology or related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with heavy equipment repair and maintenance preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with diesel engine systems and knowledge of different engine types, heavy equipment components, electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading/interpreting technical manuals, schematics, blueprints/diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service with the ability to work independently and/or as a team.
Physical Capabilities Required:
  • Must be able to lift up to 100lbs at a time.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, and crawl to access different parts of heavy equipment for inspection, maintenance, and repair. Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods to time, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat and cold.
