Job Summary
Assist Fleet Technician II and III in providing safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles by learning to perform quality preventive maintenance inspections and repairs, diagnosing issues, and repairing to prevent breakdowns, reduce vehicle downtime, and improve fleet reliability.
Responsibilities
- Learn to perform inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment under guidance to maximize safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Perform FAI/CVI inspections on fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, and light-duty vehicles under supervision.
- Conduct quality preventive maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles following company methods and regulations.
- Address driver vehicle inspection report write-ups efficiently and accurately.
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs on engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC, and hydraulic systems.
- Document all work performed on work orders accurately.
- Develop proficiency in Sysco computer programs related to fleet maintenance.
Qualifications
Education:
- Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training (preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
- No experience required
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred)
Skills:
- Basic vehicle systems knowledge
- Electrical systems diagnosis and repair skills
- Welding and cutting skills (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
- Basic computer skills
Additional:
- Own tools required; diagnostic tools provided by Sysco
- Performance reviews and training opportunities available
- Certifications (preferred but not required): ASE, Brake Inspector, HVAC, etc.
Physical Demands
- Stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl regularly; lift/move up to 100 lbs.
- Requires good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to various environmental conditions and mechanical hazards.
- Non-traditional hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed.
