Job summary

Mill Rock Packaging in Salt Lake City, UT is seeking a Die Cutter Operator III to join the cutting department. You will set up die cutters, run make-ready production, and ensure high-quality pieces while maintaining safety and efficiency.

As a senior operator, you will train and mentor teammates, monitor progress against daily goals, and uphold our commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Can-do attitude with eagerness to learn.
  • Adept at using hand tools and manual adjustments.
  • 1-2 years in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and understand job instructions, including specs.
  • Basic computer skills and quick learner.

Responsibilities

  • Set up all sections of the die cutter, including feed, die, counters, stripping and blanking.
  • Adjust machine controls using hand tools for proper alignment.
  • Execute make-ready runs to achieve proper cutting and registration.
  • Perform quality checks in compliance with quality system requirements.
  • Maintain and clean machines, perform preventative inspections.
  • Oversee throughput and quality of Die Cutting Assistants.
  • Identify die cutter issues and assist in repairs.
  • Review production progress against daily goals.

How you'll make an impact

MRP is searching for a passionate and agile Die Cutter Operator III who is a problem-solvers and excited by challenges and the opportunity to build something great with us. As a Die Cutter Operator III in the Cutting Department, you will be responsible for independently setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and optimizing die cutting equipment to produce high-quality folding carton products safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer specifications. You will leverage your technical expertise to minimize downtime, reduce waste, maintain quality standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives. As a senior operator, you will also assist in training and mentoring team members, serving as a resource for operational best practices and helping drive production excellence across the department.

What will you do in this role?
  • Set up all sections of die cutter, including the feed, die, counters, stripping and blanking sections.
  • Use hand tools to adjust machine controls to correct position and alignment of tooling as needed.
  • Execute make-ready production runs achieving proper cutting and registration; operate die cutters in a manner that achieves high quality die cut pieces.
  • Perform quality checks in full compliance with all requirements of the quality system.
  • Perform routine maintenance, machine cleaning, and preventative maintenance inspections of die cutters.
  • Oversee the work throughput and quality of the Die Cutting Assistants assigned to your press machine.
  • Identify deficiencies of the die cutter and assist in machine repairs.
  • Assess rule, rubber and knick dies.
  • Review production progress throughout the shift to measure against daily goals.
  • Keep the work area clean and well organized.
  • Respect and conform to all accepted safe work practices and standards.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, including weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements
  • Just come with a "can do" attitude and eagerness to learn.
  • Adept at working with hand tools.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Possess an ability to work together as a Die Cutting Team and embrace how your job impacts the whole team. You are the person "behind the scenes" making it happen.
  • Can accept feedback and use it to grow in your position.
  • Must have basic computer skills or the ability to learn basic skills.
  • Able to read and understand job instructions, including custom job requirements.
  • Excellent endurance to stand and move about the work area all day.
Preferred Requirements

  • Paperboard folding carton industry experience preferred.
  • Mechanical background preferred.
The physical requirements and work environment
Physical Demands
  • Standing/Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8-12 hours per shift). Climbing stairs is required occasionally.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Regularly lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive Motions: Frequent use of hands and arms for machine operation and material handling.
  • Visual/Manual Requirements: Ability to read gauges, measure materials, and perform quality checks.
Environmental Conditions
  • Noise Level: Exposure to moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection provided.
  • Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection may be required.
  • Other Factors: Occasional exposure to dust, ink, or chemicals used in production.
Schedule & Working Hours
  • Full-time position; standard schedule is Monday to Thursday 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional overtime as needed.
