Job summary

Orion Casting seeks a Quality Technician to ensure HPDC components meet customer specs, internal standards, and industry requirements. You will inspect, audit, test, and document findings while collaborating with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance to drive continuous improvement.

This role supports PPAP/FAI, NCMRs, SPC controls, and ISO/IATF compliance. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving are essential in a fast-paced casting environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of manufacturing quality experience.
• Experience in high-pressure die casting or metal manufacturing preferred.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Basic understanding of GD&T.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections of die cast components.
• Verify conformance using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and CMMs when applicable.
• Conduct visual inspections for porosity, cold shuts, flash, blisters, misruns, soldering, cracks, and dimensional nonconformance.
• Complete layered process and product audits and maintain inspection documentation.
• Review production against engineering drawings, GD&T, control plans, and work instructions.
• Collect, record, and analyze quality data to identify trends and improvements.
• Initiate nonconforming material reports and assist containment activities.
• Support root cause investigations using 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, Pareto analyses, and corrective actions.
• Assist with PPAP activities, FAI inspections, capability studies, and gauge validation.
• Participate in customer and third-party audits; verify ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 compliance.
• Communicate quality issues with production, engineering, supervisors, and customers.
• Help develop and update quality procedures, inspection instructions, and standard work.
• Promote safe work practices and maintain a clean work environment.
