Job summary

Peak Toolworks Precision in Statesville, NC is seeking a Diamond Machining Operator to set up, operate, and maintain diamond turning equipment to produce components with micron-level tolerances and superior surface finishes.

You will read engineering drawings and G-code, select and adjust tools, perform first-piece and in-process inspections, and work with engineering and quality teams to resolve manufacturing issues. Some overtime or shift work may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with some machining training preferred.
  • Experience operating CNC or manual precision machining equipment, diamond turning 1–3 years.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and G-code.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to lift up to 50–75 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate diamond turning lathes and precision machining equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Select, install, and adjust diamond cutting tools and fixtures.
  • Machine components to specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.

Job Summary:

The Diamond Machining Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining precision diamond turning and machining equipment to manufacture high-quality components with extremely tight tolerances and superior surface finishes. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate diamond turning lathes and precision machining equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Select, install, and adjust diamond cutting tools and fixtures.
  • Machine components to specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
  • Measure finished parts using precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, optical comparators, profilometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM), as required.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to ensure product quality.
  • Make machine offsets and tool adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot minor machining or equipment issues.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment clean and in good working condition.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating CNC or manual precision machining equipment; diamond turning experience 1-3 years.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and G code.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 pounds at times and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing.
  • Experience with ultra-precision machining or optical component manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming and machine setup.
  • Knowledge of ISO quality standards and lean manufacturing practices.
