Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the dialysis health care team under the supervision of a licensed nurse. You will operate dialysis machines, monitor patients during treatment, and help maintain a safe, clean environment while supporting quality improvement initiatives.

The role involves performing cannulation, vitals, UF/flow settings, and documentation of treatment parameters. Travel and flexibility may be required to ensure patient care quality.

Responsibilities

• Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment.
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
• Obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight and perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment.
• Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow (QB) and dialysate flow (QD).
• Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
• Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy.
• Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion; document relevant functions for discontinuation of treatment.
• Discontinue dialysis treatment according to procedures and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access.
• Record and document dialysis treatment details and blood pressures.
• Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition to the RN or supervisor.
• Observe patients and conduct machine safety checks and report changes.
• Document interventions and patient responses to interventions.
• Evaluate patients’ vascular access during treatment and report unusual findings.
• Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
• Ensure blood spills are cleaned with appropriate disinfectants.
• Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent wastage.
• Monitor patients performing self-care under RN supervision.
