Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care in Indianapolis is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the inpatient dialysis team. You will work under direct supervision of the Hemodialysis RN to support safe and effective dialysis for assigned patients in the acute care setting.

Responsibilities include setting up and validating dialysis equipment, collecting vital signs, documenting patient data, and contributing to a clean and safe care environment.

Qualifications

• 6 months of related field experience preferred (EMT, Surgical Technicians, Army, Phlebotomists, and technicians).
• CMS/state certification requirements must be met within the required state or CMS timeline.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Ishihara color blindness test is required as a condition of employment; accommodations may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under direct supervision of the Hemodialysis RN in the dialysis suite.
• Report and document all incidents, complaints, or problems to the RN.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, clean environment and participate in quality improvement activities.
• Set up and prime dialysis equipment under RN direction once competent.
• Ensure dialysis machines are properly set up, tested, and safe for treatment.
• Record pre/post-treatment vital signs and weights; report findings to the RN.
• Document information in EMS and ACES patient records accurately.
• Assist in cannulation reporting as permitted by state requirements; report findings to the RN.
• Monitor patient response to dialysis therapy and report unusual findings to the RN.
• Terminate venous access with appropriate assessment and dressings; report any issues.
