Job description

Position Summary

This is a temporary position.

The diagnostic technologist – outpatient is responsible for positioning patients and performing imaging procedures independently. The technologist will operate X‑ray equipment, process images and documents into PACS, and provide basic patient care under the supervision of a clinic nurse. The position may also include selected procedures as defined in the Patient Care Standards Manual and may float to Main Radiology.

  • Position patients (chest, hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, knee, foot, or ankle) for X‑ray examinations.
  • Operate X‑ray equipment and process images into PACS.
  • Perform basic patient care activities: obtain vital signs, place patients in exam rooms, obtain specimens (including blood draws if qualified), prepare patients for clinician evaluation, and assist clinicians.
  • Maintain an orderly and well‑stocked exam area.
  • Float to Main Radiology as needed.
Education / Training / Experience
  • Minimum: Previous hospital, back office, or non‑emergency clinic services experience.
  • Desired: One‑year experience in an ambulatory care setting.
Licenses / Certifications
  • Minimum: Current full Certificate of Radiologic Technology (CRT) issued by the Department of Health Services, State of California – must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum: Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum: Fluoroscopy Permit – must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Disclaimer: If the employee does not pass the initial exam within 6 months, the employee will have 6 months to retake and pass. Failure to pass the second attempt will result in either separation or a reduction in pay with no work on cases requiring a Fluoroscopy permit.
  • Desired: Current licensure issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, patient care, positioning, radiographic exposure, and quality assurance.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Self‑motivated, quick, and accurate in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Phlebotomy skills and general point‑of‑care laboratory equipment knowledge (desired).
  • Technical competence and ability to use computer software.
  • Professional communication skills with physicians, staff, patients, and the public.
  • Patient and family sensitivity.
