Summary

The incumbent performs in the role of a multimodality technologist with a substantially full range of duties in Interventional Procedures - Vascular-Interventional procedures - general radiology - and Interventional CT procedures.

The incumbent performs in the role of a multimodality technologist with a substantially full range of duties in Interventional Procedures - Vascular-Interventional procedures - general radiology - and Interventional CT procedures.

Duties

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The DRT (IR) primary responsibility is to perform radiographic duties in the Interventional Radiology (IR) specialty modality and interventional procedures in CT
• This specialty requires knowledge of Vascular - organ human anatomy and its application in Angiographic - Robotic 3d angiography - inclusive of 3-D CT based reconstruction rotational angiograms - including drainages - biopsies - hybrid scrub support duties and peripheral vascular examinations
• The technologist requires specific knowledge and training in the location - appearance - and function of the various major and minor systems susceptible to radiological illumination
• to interpret the examination requests accurately
• to understand the functioning and inter-relationship of the various organs
• to use the methods and techniques that will identify organs appearing on the digital display monitor - and the various stages of the examination to judge the acceptability of the image and/or Image manipulation - reconstruction for diagnostic use and to emphasize the aspects of particular interest to the physician
• At this level - the incumbent performs all the advanced IR procedures including complex patient examinations with little physician supervision
• Duties Include: The technologist performs scrub and catheter manipulation assistance for catheter access to attain purchase of selected vessel for contrast exams
• In addition to performing Interventional Radiology procedures - the incumbent will perform general radiologic technology (R) procedures and IR CT examinations under the direction of radiologist - other medical officers
• The incumbent may be called upon to assist in performing procedures in other specialty modalities
• The purpose of these examinations and procedures is to produce radiographic studies that are used in medical diagnosis - therapy and interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries - foreign bodies - pathological conditions - or lesions within the body
• They prepare and administer contrast media and medications in accordance with State and Federal regulations
• The incumbent must be knowledgeable in Digital Radiography - Power Injection systems - and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS)
• Other duties include triaging exams to ensure maximum usage of equipment and ensures ability to accommodate emergencies exams - practices radiation safety - maintains files and records - properly identifies patient images - must be continuously on the alert to the patient's condition and other disorders
• reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient
• The incumbent ensures sterility of the working area - patient prep area - catheter - and instruments
• The IR technologist provides intact sterile supplies stocking and inventory control for the section
• The incumbent confers with radiologists to determine requirement of non-standard exams
• Determines technical factors - positioning - PSI in relation to contract injection rate
• The DRT (IR) advises radiologists or referring physicians of examination results and notifies them of scans requiring their immediate attention
• The technologist supervises and maintains specific ARRT requirements and creates a student performance plan for board eligible technologists to attain advance registry [CI] [VI] for the ARRT boards

• Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm - with rotational on call coverage for after hours - weekends - and holidays Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay - a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade)
