Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia seeks a Radiologic Technologist to perform diagnostic imaging using X-ray, MRI, CT, and other modalities. You will support patient care and work with clinical teams to ensure high-quality images for diagnosis and education.

Required qualifications include ARRT licensure, an accredited radiography program, and BLS certification. Prolonged standing and lifting are expected, with eligibility for licensure in Virginia.

Jobs in this job family are responsible for performing diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures to support patient care, clinical research, and medical education. These roles utilize advanced imaging technologies—X-rays, MRI, CT scans, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology—to produce high-quality images that aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of medical conditions.

These roles are responsible for operating imaging equipment such as X-rays and MRIs, ensuring that accurate images are captured for diagnostic purposes.

Individual contributors with responsibility in a clinical discipline or specialty typically diagnose, treat, and care for patients, often including face‑to‑face interactions. They may also design and implement clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills. Specialty license or certification is required, achieved through advanced education, training, and/or experience. This career stream is most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory technologist jobs.

Requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requires vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision. Problems are typically routine but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited JRC program in Radiography required. Associate’s Degree in Radiography preferred.

Licensure: Registered Radiologic Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT R.T.) required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. Valid Virginia Driver’s License (VADL) may be required.

Physical Demands: Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping and traveling, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive); repetitive motion (computer keyboard). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, cold, dust, noise, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $30.13–$48.21 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
