Job summary

A healthcare organization in Ann Arbor is seeking a Sonographer to perform specialized medical ultrasound examinations. Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Sonography program.
  • Registered by ARDMS with at least one certification.
  • Current BLS certification is required.
  • One year of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Explain ultrasound procedures to patients.
  • Review patient charts and previous examination results.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures with ultrasound equipment.
  • Consult with the radiologist for additional images.
  • Schedule examinations and perform clerical duties.
  • Assist in operating room procedures while maintaining sterility.

Position Purpose

The Sonographer performs a variety of specialized medical ultrasound examinations/procedures to obtain high quality images for diagnostic interpretation and may also assist the physician with US-guided procedures. Sonographers work closely with the Ultrasound leadership and the Radiologists.

Status & Shift

Status Available: Full Time, 36 hours per week

Shift Available: Night Shift, Fri/Sat/Sun 7p - 8a

Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Sonography program
  • Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with a minimum of one certification OR Registry-eligible with certification within one year of date of hire
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy
  • Must have the ability to produce and evaluate quality images
  • One year as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer preferred
Responsibilities
  • Explain ultrasound procedures to patients in order to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation using care, courtesy, tact, and empathy.
  • Review patients' charts and results from previous ultrasound examinations or other diagnostic studies, records patients' personal and medical information.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures by adjusting, manipulating and controlling a variety of complex ultrasound equipment and accessories.
  • Consult with the radiologist and experienced associates to determine the need for additional images for comprehensive interpretation.
  • Schedule examinations and perform related clerical duties such as answering telephones and locating prior imaging and reports.
  • Assist in the performance of aspiration, biopsy or operating room procedures maintaining sterilization, isolation and infection and infection control techniques to prevent contamination.
  • Maintain documentation of infection control procedures and activities. Abide by Infection Control policy relating to Intracavitary probe disinfection, to include all accurate documentation within the department at each location worked.
  • Take initiative to improve overall staff education via in-services, article distributions with peers, student’s one-on-one training sessions, and assisting with new employee Orientation/Training as assigned.
  • Adapt and cooperate with schedule changes and location changes. Rotate shifts, weekends, and holidays as deemed appropriate by management, including assignments to other campuses.
