Freeport-McMoRan in Safford, AZ is seeking a skilled maintenance mechanic to perform routine and non-routine maintenance on process equipment, repair, install, fabricate and troubleshoot with an emphasis on safety and quality.

Candidates should have at least four years of mechanical maintenance experience, the ability to read blueprints, work with hydraulics, welding and mechanical systems, and pass required training and medical exams. The role may involve shift work in a 24/7 operation.

• Four years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts.
• Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and pass required assessments.
• Welding skills demonstrated; CAT/LOP related training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance of process equipment (pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters).
• Operate small and large cranes and use safe rigging practices.
• Follow MSHA and OSHA rules and environmental regulations, SOPs and work area instructions.

What You Will Do

• Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities with increased complexity.
• Complete Work Orders, order parts, and other maintenance documentation
• Ability to repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, troubleshoot and preventative maintenance of process equipment i.e. pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters, etc. Capable of performing equipment lubrication.
• Competent in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, welding, bearings, basic metallurgy (stress cracking, metal compatibility), conveyor systems, plumbing, alignment, machine shop, blueprints, schematics, and mobile equipment. Qualified to operate small and large cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices.
• Follow and understand MSHA and/or OSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities, uses plant and equipment correctly at all times.
• Assist in training of employees in the mechanical maintenance area.
• Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Four (4) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge, as well as safety.
• FPM Diagnostic Mechanic II:75% FLEX score required; Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
• HEM Diagnostic Mechanic II:Practical Assessments defined in LOP; Complete first 34 classes in CAT-Uortested out with HEM FLEX Assessment.
• Shovel/Drill Diagnostic Mechanic II:Practical Assessments defined in LOP; Completed 52 coursesortested out with SDHEM Flex Assessment.

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $32.00 - $44.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
