Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan seeks a skilled Maintenance Mechanic to support the Miami smelter and rod plant in Arizona. You will perform routine and non-routine maintenance, document work orders, and repair, install, and calibrate process equipment such as pumps, conveyors, and gearboxes, ensuring safe production.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in mechanical/maintenance crafts, welding skills, and familiarity with safety standards (MSHA/OSHA).

Qualifications

• Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
• FPM Diagnostic Mechanic I: demonstrate ability to apply knowledge and technical skills with 35% score on a written assessment; basic welding skills recommended.

What You Will Do

Highly skilled employees in the mechanical maintenance craft who applies a broad level of process and mechanical/maintenance knowledge to maximize and, where possible, improve the efficiency of the overall production process. Among these workers are machinists, heavy machinery mechanics, skilled automotive technicians, certified welders, pump rebuild mechanics and specialized maintenance mechanic personnel. Employee will work autonomously under required supervision where the primary objective is safe production.

• Ability to repair, install, fabricate, rebuild, and perform preventative maintenance of process equipment i.e. pumps, conveyors, dryers, gearboxes, filters, etc. Capable of performing equipment lubrication.
• Competent in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, bearings, conveyor systems, plumbing, alignment, machine shop, and mobile equipment. Qualified to operate small and large cranes and knowledgeable of safe rigging practices.
• Follows and understands MSHA and/or OSHA rules and regulations, Environmental rules and regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities, uses plant and equipment correctly at all times.
• Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned according to business need.

What You Bring To Freeport

Minimum Requirements:

• Two (2) years’ experience in mechanical/maintenance crafts (including welder, boilermaker, machinist or facility maintenance/construction) or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance.
• Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required mechanical aptitude.
• FPM Diagnostic Mechanic I: The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and technical skills while achieving 35% score on a written assessment where required. This exam is based on technical skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety. Must be able to demonstrate proficient basic welding skills.
• HEM Diagnostic Mechanic I: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP.
• Shovel/Drill Diagnostic Mechanic I: Practical Skills Assessments defined in LOP.

Preferred Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 5+ years of experience as a mechanic in an acid plant environment.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining and rebuilding Lewis pumps and valves.
• 5+ years of experience working within Process Safety Management (PSM) standards.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining hot gas fan systems, including rotors, Babbitt bearings, louvers, and carbon seals.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining radial-flow scrubbers, pumps, valves, and fiberglass piping systems.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining coolers and heat exchangers, including tube plugging and welding repairs.
• 5+ years of welding experience with corrosion-resistant metals used in acid plant operations.
• 5+ years of experience maintaining cooling towers, including gearboxes, shafts, and spray systems.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $27.00 - $36.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
