DESE Research, Inc. seeks a DevSecOps Engineer to update, operate, secure, and sustain its development infrastructure for the Cyber Works Division in Huntsville, AL.

You’ll support on-premises servers, container workloads, monitoring, identity, networking, and Azure resources, enabling 20–30 developers and subcontractors to deliver cyber science solutions. You will combine hands-on administration with automation, upgrades, incident response, and CI/CD enhancements to improve availability,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related technical discipline.
• Hands-on Linux-based development infrastructure administration in a multi-user environment.
• Experience operating on-premises servers, storage, networking, and supporting infrastructure services.
• Experience building container images and deploying containerized applications.
• Experience with Docker Compose, Kubernetes, or similar orchestration.
• Experience automating infrastructure configuration with Ansible or similar tools.
• Experience with Git-based workflows and GitLab.
• Experience implementing monitoring, logging, dashboards, and alerting.
• Knowledge of networking, IAM, TLS, backups and recovery.
• Ability to diagnose complex issues across hardware, OS, networks, storage, containers, and services.
• Ability to document plans and changes clearly and manage risk.

Responsibilities

• Administer, update, secure, and troubleshoot Ubuntu Linux servers and development services.
• Operate and maintain GitLab and GitLab Runners, including access, upgrades, backups, and health.
• Deploy and sustain containerized services using Docker Compose or Kubernetes.
• Automate infrastructure tasks with Ansible and supporting scripts.
• Implement observability with Prometheus, Loki, Promtail, and Grafana.
• Manage Keycloak and Nginx for identity and secure exposure.
• Administer on-premises infrastructure including TrueNAS, RAID, storage, and recovery.
• Configure networking for development systems and document changes.
• Manage Azure resources with security, cost awareness, and lifecycle focus.
• Support AI workloads (vLLM, OpenCode) when required.
• Monitor health, respond to outages, perform root-cause analysis, and document outcomes.
• Maintain system diagrams, runbooks, inventories, and knowledge materials.
• Collaborate with developers and stakeholders to upgrade services and remove blockers.
• Support secure software delivery, vulnerability remediation, and compliance.
