Job summary

Sunbird Software seeks a DevOps and Infrastructure Engineer to join our engineering team in Raleigh. The role focuses on maintaining and evolving development and test infrastructure, collaborating with software teams to improve automation, reliability, security, scalability, and deployment efficiency across on‑premises and cloud environments.

You will work with Linux, Python, Bash, Perl, Jenkins, GitHub, Kubernetes, OpenShift, VMware, Azure, AWS, and related infrastructure technologies.

Qualifications

Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
Experience with Shell, Ruby, Perl or Python scripts for server configuration and automation.
Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Experience with system administration and networking (DNS, TCP/IP).
Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve productivity.
Ability to manage Cisco firewalls and VPNs.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

Maintain, monitor, and continuously improve on-premises infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, virtualization, containers).
Manage backup and disaster recovery for critical systems.
Apply patches to OS, hypervisors, firmware, and apps to stay secure and up to date.
Design, maintain, and enhance CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
Deploy and manage VMs and infrastructure across VMware, Linux KVM, Azure, and AWS.
Support identity and access management systems (SAML, LDAP, Active Directory).
Perform network and systems administration tasks (DNS, VPN, firewall coordination, SSL certs).
Evaluate infrastructure improvements and tooling to boost reliability and scalability.
Automate routine tasks with scripting and infrastructure tools.
Collaborate with software teams to improve deployment, observability, and platform reliability.
Create and maintain infra docs and recovery procedures.
Maintain Perl, Ruby, and Shell scripts for deployment and admin tasks.
Some after-hours or on-call support for critical systems (not frequent).
Must follow company AI usage policy.
