Job summary

Navstar is an established IT services provider supporting mission-critical National Security programs. We seek a DevOps engineer to improve delivery lifecycle, oversee a small DevOps team, and ensure secure, reliable operation across development, testing, and production environments.

The role requires active TS/SCI clearance with Poly, Bachelor's or Master's in CS/Engineering, and hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Grafana, Git, and CI/CD tools. On-call work may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with deployment technologies, such as Kubernetes for container orchestration.
• Strong understanding of system administration across OS environments.
• Experience with metrics monitoring and dashboards (Grafana).
• Knowledge of configuration management and security controls.

Responsibilities

• Finds deficiencies in delivery lifecycle and architecture and implements industry best practices.
• Oversees hiring input for a small DevOps team for operation and maintenance.
• Patches and upgrades products for reliable delivery to customer environments.
• Maintains development, testing, and production environments.
• Manages CI/CD pipelines to maximize efficiency.
• Implements system hardening and configuration management practices.
• Develops and maintains solutions for backup, disaster recovery, and monitoring.
• Tests system integrity and deployments; makes improvements as needed.
• Works with CI/CD tools and source control (Git).
• Provides technical support and develops back-end software as needed.

Role Description:

• Under general direction, finds deficiencies with our product delivery lifecycle and architecture and implement industry best practices to improve them.
• Oversees and offers input over hiring of a small DevOps team to assist the operation and maintenance of our products.
• Inspects, patches, and upgrades our existing product(s) so that they can more reliably deliver to customer environments.
• Maintains development, testing, and production environments.
• Manages continuous integration and delivery pipelines to maximize efficiency.
• Implements industry best practices for system hardening and configuration management.
• Develops and maintains solutions for operational administration, system/data backup, disaster recovery, and security/performance monitoring.
• Tests system integrity, implemented designs, application developments and other processes related to infrastructure, making improvements as needed.
• Manages code deployments, fixes, updates and related processes.
• Works with CI/CD tools, and source control (git)
• Offers technical support where needed, developing software for our back-end systems.

Stays current with industry trends and source new ways for our business to improve.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• To be eligible for this position you must hold an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

JUNIOR: Typically requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and two years of related experience.

Experience with deployment technologies, such as Kubernetes (K8s) for container orchestration.

• Experience with metrics monitoring and dashboards (Grafana).
• Understanding of user access practices and security controls within a system.
• Understanding of system administration in various OS environments.
• Strong knowledge of configuration management tools.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle best practices.Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
• Able to work on-call hours as required.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

• Understanding of AWS services and cloud management.
• Experience maintaining existing production kubernetes installations.
