Job summary

Sonata Software, a leading AI-first modernization engineering company, is seeking a seasoned DevOps/SRE with 10+ years of experience to lead complex delivery pipelines on-site in Westlake Village, CA. You will own CI/CD, IaC (Terraform/OpenTofu), and AWS deployments, while ensuring security, reliability, and scalable infrastructure across platforms.

The ideal candidate has Linux, Java, and container skills, plus hands-on experience with GitLab CI, Chef, AWS Secrets Manager, and New Relic.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive experience in a DevOps or SRE role.
• Linux, Java, and container skills are mandatory.
• Expert-level, hands-on proficiency in Java build and deployment ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage robust CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI.
• Architect and maintain IaC with Terraform and OpenTofu for cloud resources.
• Manage AWS-based infrastructure following best practices for reliability and security.
• Develop and maintain Chef cookbooks for configuration management.
• Oversee secrets management using AWS Secrets Manager and related tools.
• Utilize observability platforms like New Relic to monitor and optimize systems.
• Integrate external identity providers (e.g., Auth0) and ensure secure access across services.
• Drive end-to-end delivery pipelines and own projects from conception to completion.

Experience: 10-12 Years

Ideal Experience

• 7+ years of progressive experience in a DevOps or SRE role.
• Linux, Java, and container skills are mandatory.
• Expert-level, hands‑on proficiency in Java build and deployment ecosystems.
• Deep expertise in building and managing pipelines with GitLab CI.
• Mastery of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or OpenTofu.
• Demonstrable experience with AWS services and cloud architecture best practices.
• Proven ability to write and maintain Chef cookbooks for configuration management.
• Strong experience with secrets management solutions, preferably AWS Secrets Manager.
• Direct experience with observability platforms, specifically New Relic.
• Familiarity with the architecture and integration of external identity providers like Auth0.
• Strong background in integrating various tools as part of a complex delivery pipeline.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive projects from conception to completion.

Desired (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Dotnet Core build and deployment process.
• Experience or strong understanding of the Drools rules engine.
• Prior experience with database migration tools like Liquibase.
• Experience managing configuration data with AWS AppConfig.
