Position Overview

IT Veterans is seeking a DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and optimize the infrastructure and deployment pipelines supporting a secure enterprise platform. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, operating, and scaling a cloud-native generative AI platform across Impact Levels 5 and 6 (IL5/IL6) and Top Secret (TS) environments.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Kubernetes, secure cloud technologies, and DevSecOps practices. You will play a critical role in delivering scalable, resilient, and secure cloud infrastructure that enables the deployment of frontier AI capabilities in support of Department of Defense (DoD) missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure within Azure GovCloud and/or AWS GovCloud environments.
  • Deploy, configure, and support core platform technologies, including Kubernetes, Istio, Keycloak, ArgoCD, Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), and PostgreSQL, across IL5, IL6, and TS environments while ensuring compliance with federal security requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and Ansible to automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources while ensuring consistency across multiple environments.
  • Manage and optimize containerized application deployments using Kubernetes, ensuring high availability, scalability, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure GitLab CI/CD pipelines that support automated, compliant, and efficient software delivery.
  • Configure and maintain networking components, load balancers, BCAP dual routing, and Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) integrations in support of Zero Trust architecture.
  • Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting capabilities to proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system performance issues, security events, and infrastructure outages.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure complies with applicable federal security standards by implementing appropriate access controls, encryption, and data protection measures.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, cybersecurity teams, architects, and government stakeholders to ensure the successful integration, deployment, and operation of cloud services.
Required Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Extensive experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Kubernetes.
  • Strong proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform.
  • Experience supporting secure cloud environments within Azure GovCloud and/or AWS GovCloud.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of secure cloud architecture, configuration management, and infrastructure automation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with SIPRNet, JWICS cloud environments, and Cross Domain Solutions (CDS).
  • Deep understanding of DevSecOps principles and experience implementing them within highly regulated government environments.
  • Experience designing highly available, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across software engineering, cybersecurity, operations, and government teams.
  • A proactive, continuous improvement mindset with a focus on automation, infrastructure modernization, and secure software delivery.
