Omniscius Consulting is seeking a DevOps Engineer / Cloud Engineer Level 1 to support a mission-critical Government program in Laurel, MD. You will help transition, automate, and operate applications within cloud environments, leveraging AWS, Ansible, CI/CD, Linux, and infrastructure automation.

The ideal candidate has TS/SCI with Polygraph, a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 2+ years cloud experience, and a strong grasp of DevOps practices.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field plus 3+ years software development/engineering experience.
  • An additional 4 years of software development experience may substitute for a degree.
  • At least 2 years of experience with cloud technologies.
  • Experience implementing, managing, or optimizing DevOps practices.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, tools, and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD processes and technologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Experience working within Agile development.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assess capabilities and expand DevOps adoption into cloud environments.

Job description

Our client is seeking a DevOps Engineer / Cloud Engineer Level 1 to support a mission-critical Government program in Laurel, MD. This position will support the transition, integration, automation, and operation of applications and capabilities within cloud environments.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with AWS, Ansible, CI/CD, Linux, infrastructure automation, and DevOps methodologies, with the ability to work closely with system administrators, developers, and other technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess existing capabilities and identify opportunities to expand DevOps adoption and transition applications and systems into cloud environments.
  • Analyze existing systems to identify data migration, software modification, security, legal, and compliance requirements associated with cloud transformation.
  • Collaborate with System Administrators to plan, prioritize, and coordinate technical activities supporting cloud migration and ongoing system operations.
  • Use Ansible and other automation and configuration management tools to streamline system administration, deployment, and operational processes.
  • Plan, test, and deploy system security patches, kernel updates, and software upgrades using established patch and configuration management tools.
  • Support the design, development, and testing of software modifications required for cloud migration.
  • Develop, test, and coordinate deployment plans for application and infrastructure changes within cloud environments.
  • Apply cloud engineering best practices to improve system performance, reliability, automation, scalability, and resource utilization.
  • Support Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) processes and automation.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in Agile development and engineering activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, tools, and methodologies, including automation and continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD processes and technologies.
  • Experience developing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Relevant certifications in AWS, DevOps, cloud engineering, or related technologies.
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite, including Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience managing and supporting systems hosted within AWS or other virtualized/cloud environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
  • Experience supporting Linux and Windows environments.
