GRVTY is seeking a highly motivated DevOps Engineer to join our fast-paced development team. The ideal candidate will apply Kubernetes, AWS, and automation to build scalable cloud and edge infrastructure from on-prem to cloud.

Responsibilities include leading deployment automation, maintaining Linux systems, and mentoring junior engineers. On-site work in Columbia, MD is required with potential for leadership impact in a senior role.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph U.S. Government Clearance is required
  • 5+ years DevOps or Software Development experience or 3 years with a Masters in related field; or HS diploma + 9 years relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services (EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda)
  • Proficient in Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience with deployment, scaling, and management of apps, containers, OS
  • Able to develop in Python, Bash, or Go
  • Familiar with Git, Flux, and related dev tools
  • Comfortable in a terminal-based environment; Linux sysadmin skills
  • AGILE methodologies and prior tech-lead/mentor experience
  • Willing to work onsite at Columbia, MD 5 days a week

Job description

GRVTY is seeking a highly motivated and experienced DevOps Engineer to join our fast-paced development team. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge in Kubernetes and Container Orchestration, Configuration Management, CI/CD, Automation, AWS, Linux systems administration, Scripting in Bash and Programming in Python, and a background in Big Data solutions. The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for implementing infrastructure, automating deployment processes, and ensuring the monitoring, reliability and scalability of our services. This role currently supports a customer onsite in Columbia, MD.

What You'll be Owning
  • Support development and deployment of cloud infrastructure in AWS, especially EKS.
  • Support development and deployment of non-cloud (Edge) infrastructure of on-premise and portable equipment.
  • Automate deployment processes and ensure reliability and scalability of services.
  • Manage and maintain Kubernetes containers and cloud infrastructure on AWS.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate their applications into the infrastructure.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production systems and resolve issues as necessary.
  • Continuously improve processes and tools to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Stay current with new technologies and industry trends, continuously exploring new ways to improve our infrastructure.
  • Seamlessly transition between hands-on execution and team guidance, treating mentorship and team leadership as inherent components of senior-level impact.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Must Have
  • An active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph level U.S. Government Security Clearance is required; U.S. Citizenship required.
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps Engineering or Software Development and Bachelors in related field; or 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services (EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda) and their application to deployment and management of infrastructure.
  • Proficient in configuration management tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Experience with application, container, and OS deployment, scaling, and management.
  • Ability to develop in multiple programming languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
  • Familiarity with Git, Flux, and other development and deployment tools.
  • Must be comfortable in a terminal-based environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of Linux, including system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of AGILE software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a tech lead, mentor, or manager for engineering teams.
  • Must be willing/able to help open/close the workspace during regular business hours as needed.
  • Must be able to work on customer site in Columbia, MD 5 days a week. Flexibility is essential to accommodate any changes in the schedule.
What Would be Nice to Have
  • Experience with big data technologies like: Hadoop, Accumulo, Ceph, Spark, NiFi, Kafka, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Hive, Drill, Impala, Trino, Presto, etc.
  • Experience with containers, EKS, Diode, CI/CD, and Terraform are a plus.
