Job summary

Cboe Global Markets is seeking an Engineering Manager for DevEx that will own the internal platform and drive developer productivity across distributed teams. The role emphasizes reliability, observability, and scalable infrastructure.

Location Overview

Cboe HQ is located in the historic Old Post Office district, it’s a landmark that blends classic architecture with modern amenities. The building features expansive spaces with high ceilings and large windows, offering an abundance of natural light and panoramic views of the city skyline and the Chicago River.

With its prime location in the heart of downtown, the OPO Building provides easy access to major transportation hubs, including Union Station and multiple CTA lines, making it convenient for commuters. The building is home to a variety of amenities, including restaurants, a fitness center, and collaborative workspaces, creating a vibrant and dynamic work environment in one of Chicago's most iconic areas.

Role Overview

Cboe Clear U.S. (CCUS) is a regulated clearinghouse. We clear the event contracts and prediction markets listed on Cboe's exchanges, and we are building toward tokenized collateral, 24x7 operation, and the infrastructure that carries traditional finance onto DeFi rails.

CCUS Software Engineering is a high trust environment. We treat failure as a source of learning, and we expect engineering teams to work across team boundaries rather than only within their departments. We solve the problem, then we write the code. Design documents and architecture decision records come first. The engineers we value most close their feedback loop. They write tests, and they instrument what they ship so it fails fast, explains itself in production, leaves an audit trail and rolls back cleanly.

The DevEx Engineering Manager owns the internal platform the rest of engineering delivers on. Our Engineering Manager owns delivery of clearing product; you own what they deliver it on. If a product team is blocked on tooling, infrastructure or a deploy, that is yours to solve, and developer productivity is the outcome you are measured against. You would lead a small team and grow the function around it over the next year, with a strong hand in hiring.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Leading and growing a team of engineers, including performance management and hiring.
• Removing platform work from other teams' plates so their engineers stay on domain problems.
• Treating developer experience as an internal product, with the engineering teams as your customers.
• Setting platform strategy and aligning the roadmap to what delivery teams actually need.
• Owning our CI pipelines in GitHub Actions and how they integrate with the platform team's deployment tooling.
• Acting as the voice of our application developers to the central platform team, so what they build reflects what our engineers actually need.
• Instrumenting both the delivery pipeline and the services, so delivery health and production health are measured rather than asserted.
• Defining the service level objectives for platform services and running the team to an error budget.
• Holding a bar where repeated manual work gets automated rather than scheduled.
• Improving deployment frequency, change lead time, change failure rate and time to restore service.
• Running reliability practice, disaster recovery design and the drills that validate recovery objectives.
• Authoring and maintaining architecture decision records so platform tradeoffs stay visible and revisitable.
• Partnering with information security to move controls earlier in the development lifecycle.

Required:

• Owning developer experience end to end, from delivery pipelines through observability and production readiness
• Experience leading platform, developer experience, infrastructure or reliability engineering teams
• Hiring and growing a team from a small base
• Treating an internal platform as a product, with engineers as the customer
• A habit of treating delivery itself as a system to be measured and tuned, with the practices to back it up
• Reliability engineering experience, including service level objectives, error budgets, recovery objectives and incident practice
• Comfort authoring design documents and architecture decision records before implementation begins
• Minimum Work Experience: 8+ years in platform, developer experience, infrastructure or reliability engineering with a bachelor's degree, or 10+ years without a degree, including 3+ years leading such teams

Preferred:

• Deep experience with Kubernetes, Nomad or similar container orchestrators
• Infrastructure as code discipline and a low tolerance for manual, undocumented change
• Regulated financial infrastructure with formal recovery obligations
• Strong Linux fundamentals and comfort operating production systems under real load

Nice to have:

• Cloud platforms including AWS, Azure or GCP alongside on-premise infrastructure
• Moving security controls earlier in the development lifecycle
• Standing up a platform or developer experience function from scratch

Current technology stack:

Java on Kubernetes. Application code and CI pipelines live in GitHub with GitHub Actions. Container images and build artifacts live in registries such as Harbor and Artifactory, and Helm charts are deployed by ArgoCD from a GitOps repository. PostgreSQL, Kafka and Linux. This is representative rather than exhaustive. Our platform team runs the deployment platform on its own tooling, in its own repositories, so a real part of this role is integrating cleanly across that boundary and telling them what our application developers need.

You do not need experience with every technology in our environment. We hire for competencies over pedigree, so if you have built similar systems and learn quickly.

Salary Ranges (applicable for US locations only)

At Cboe, we are committed to providing a competitive, transparent, and market-informed total rewards program. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $158,950-$205,700, with actual compensation determined by job‑related factors such as skills, relevant experience, education, internal alignment, and location.

This role may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and, where applicable, participation in Cboe's long-term equity programs.
