Job summary

Monarch Healthcare in Gastonia, NC is seeking a Developmental Specialist (Residential) for a part-time schedule Fri–Mon, 2pm–10pm, totaling 32 hours weekly. The role focuses on supporting people with mental health diagnoses, IDD, or substance use disorders to achieve personal goals.

You will assess dreams, help build relationships, promote community participation, ensure rights, provide advocacy support, and maintain documentation while following agency policies and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience with individuals with mental health diagnoses or developmental disabilities or substance use disorder preferred.
• Ability to support individuals in community integration and advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Assess individuals' hopes, dreams, and desires and provide supports to achieve them.
• Help individuals develop and maintain relationships in their community and with natural supports.
• Assist participation in community activities aligned with interests.
• Protect and promote the rights of individuals receiving services and support advocacy efforts.
• Meet emotional, physical, and medical needs as required.
• Foster person-centered relationships and self-determination.
• Contribute to planning processes and implement individual plans.
• Complete required documentation and progress notes.
• Assist with day-to-day home operations and transportation as needed.
• Provide safety training and emergency procedures awareness.
• Mentor new or current staff and participate in trainings.
• Sleepovers at residential settings may be required.
• Attend meetings and maintain certifications.

Assist people in developing advocacy skills, participating in advocacy efforts, and utilizing personal advocates. • Provide support as needed to meet the emotional, physical, and medical needs of each person supported. • Facilitate person-centered, effective, positive relationships with people receiving services using positive approaches that promote self-determination in all areas of life. • Provide input and recommendations into assessment and planning processes, and development of the individual’s plan. • Implement person’s plan fully, within the requirements of the service definition, and document as required by the service definition and agency policy. Accurately complete all required documentation, including but not limited to, goal completion, actions toward outcomes, incident reports, timesheets, etc. • Complete daily progress notes and communication log to assure appointments, goals, and interests are met. • Assist people receiving services with the day-to-day operation of their home such as housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, lawn care, vehicle cleanliness, and maintenance. • Drive and travel as required. Arrange for, or provide transportation to people receiving services as required. • Assist people receiving services with knowledge of emergency procedures and personal safety. Utilize effective judgment when dealing with safety issues, including but not limited to fire safety by conducting drills, inspecting equipment, and practicing safety procedures in the community. • Assist new staff and/or current staff with orientation, mentoring, and training.• Sleepover at a residential setting may be required. • Attend and actively participate in meetings and training as required.
