Job summary

City of Blaine seeks a Civil Service Officer (CSO) in a developmental, non-sworn, uniformed role within the Police Department. The position supports licensed officers, handles animal control, parking, and city ordinances, and may work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED.
• Valid driver's license.
• No record of conviction and/or adjudication for Gross Misdemeanor and/or Felony crimes.
• Enrollment in an approved law enforcement curriculum.
• Desirable: One year of police-related work experience (Police Reserve/Explorer/Cadet).
• Desirable: One year of public-facing work experience; First Responder certification.

Responsibilities

• Patrols an assigned area in an unlicensed capacity and assists officers at crime scenes, including directing traffic.
• Provides support in animal control and parking-related services, issuing warnings or citations, and assisting with vehicle lockouts.
• Reviews and types reports; receives and logs requests from the public; maintains records for accuracy.
• Communicates with the public and employees while patrolling the city in an unlicensed capacity.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
