Job summary

NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Developmental Assistant to support direct care and supervision in the Day Habilitation program. You will participate in planning, training, and coordinating daily operations to ensure safe, person-centered care.

The role involves leading staff, implementing behavior plans, coordinating schedules, and liaising with families. Strong adherence to policy and safety procedures is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in care, treatment, and habilitation of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Train staff in CPR/First Aid and Promote training when required.
• Supervise DSA staff; assume Head of Shift duties.
• Schedule regular shifts and medical appointments; cover call-ins.
• Implement residential habilitation, protective oversight, and behavior plans.
• Oversee community inclusion opportunities and family guidance as needed.
• Manage personal funds; ensure policy compliance; handle CITRIX database entries.
• Interact with families; provide guidance regarding loved ones.
• Oversee fire plans, drills, and evacuation procedures.
• Maintain regulatory compliance and communicate with supervisor and staff.
• Attend Lifeplan and planning meetings; participate in house staff meetings.
• Maintain relationships with Day Habilitation providers; prepare for surveys.
