Job summary

Midwest Air Traffic Control Services Inc. seeks Developmental Air Traffic Control Trainee to join the Midwest ATC training program across Midwest areas.

Trainees will be enrolled in FAA-approved ECT-I or CTO-P programs and will work under an OJT Instructor to learn traffic control procedures and safety standards. The role includes taking weather data, issuing instructions, coordinating with airport teams, and maintaining daily operation records.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in FAA-approved ECT-I or CTO-P program.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in training for the purpose of obtaining a Control Tower Operator Certificate at the facility assigned.
  • Working collaboratively with the OJTI to meet the expectations of the Facility Training Plan (FTP).
  • Answering radio calls from arriving and departing aircraft.
  • Issuing landing/takeoff instructions.
  • Issuing information such as runway to use, wind velocity and direction, visibility, taxiing instructions, and pertinent data on other aircraft operating in the vicinity.
  • Issuing air traffic clearances.
  • Providing advice based on observations and information from weather and flight facilities and pilots.
  • Taking and disseminating weather observations at LAWRS.
  • Transferring control of aircraft to receiving facilities when aircraft leave their airspace and receiving control of aircraft coming into their airspace.
  • Operating radios, telephones, interphones, computer systems, radar, weather equipment and backup equipment.
  • Alerting airport emergency crews and other personnel when aircraft are having flight difficulties.
  • Coordinating with and issuing instructions to airport vehicles and personnel.
  • Maintaining and disseminating records of daily operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In support of the FAA’s workforce development initiatives, Midwest ATC is seeking interested applicants for Developmental Air Traffic Control (ATC) Trainee positions throughout the Midwest ATC areas of responsibility. Interested applicants must be enrolled in, or a graduate from, an FAA-approved Enhanced Air Traffic – Collegiate Training Initiative (ECT-I) or Control Tower Operator – Partnership (CTO-P) program.

Description

The Developmental ATC Trainee will be entered into the Midwest ATC training program at the facility assigned. The Trainee will actively control air traffic on and within the vicinity of the airport according to established procedures and policies to prevent collisions and minimize delays arising from traffic congestion under the direct supervision of an On-the-Job Training Instructor (OJTI). Developmental ATC Trainee duties include:

  • Issuing information such as runway to use, wind velocity and direction, visibility, taxiing instructions, and pertinent data on other aircraft operating in the vicinity.
  • Issuing air traffic clearances.
  • Providing advice based on their own observations and information from the National Weather Service, IFR control facilities, flight service stations, pilots, and other sources.
  • Taking and disseminating weather observations at Limited Aviation Weather Reporting Station (LAWRS).
  • Transferring control of aircraft to receiving facilities when aircraft leave their airspace and receiving control of aircraft coming into their airspace.
  • Operating various types of equipment such as radios, telephones, interphones, computer systems, radar, recording systems, weather equipment, light guns, airport/runway lighting systems, and backup equipment.
  • Alerting airport emergency crews and other designated personnel when aircraft are having flight difficulties.
  • Coordinating with and issuing instructions to airport vehicles and personnel.
  • Maintaining and disseminating records of daily operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants should include resume, cover letter, and supporting documents (ECT-I/CTO-P endorsement letter, Airman Written Test results, etc.).
  • Applicant must be able to obtain an FAA security clearance and Class II Medical Certificate before beginning work.
