Job summary

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Corning is a global leader in specialty glass, ceramics, and optical physics - and this role sits at the center of next-generation optical fiber manufacturing. As a Development Technician in Wilmington, NC, you'll help build and support new manufacturing equipment and controls that drive product quality improvements and reduce costs. This is a hands-on, shop/lab-based role with real ownership and variety in your day-to-day work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and stage parts and hardware kits; assemble machines and subassemblies following engineering drawings and documented procedures
  • Source and procure components — obtain vendor quotes, place orders, track open orders, and receive and inspect incoming materials against purchase orders and specifications
  • Support new equipment startups, assist in running experiments, and contribute to training and documentation for process and equipment transfers
Experiences/Education - Required
  • Associate degree in Electrical or Mechanical Technology; or 4+ years of technician experience or equivalent demonstrated skills
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings for accurate part identification and assembly
  • Proficiency with hand tools for equipment assembly to drawing specifications
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques — including machining, turning, Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), and 3D printing — for vendor quoting and part coordination
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD software
  • Experience with diagnostic testing equipment such as gauges, measuring instruments, or multimeters
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings

The range for this position is$60,620.00-$83,353.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
