Development Team Manager

Super-Sod is seeking a Development Team Manager to be the project manager and team leader for our software development group. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will own how development work is planned, prioritized, scheduled, and delivered, and you will lead, support, and grow the developers who do that work. First and foremost, this is a project management and people leadership role - that is where the majority of your time and impact will be. Software development experience is a plus and may be required, as it helps the leader guide the team through new features and functionality, make sound technical trade-offs, and speak the same language as the developers - but writing code day to day is not the primary focus of the position.

Strong project management is the heart of the job: keeping projects on track, managing priorities across competing demands, and making sure the team delivers on time and aligned with company goals. Equally important is team leadership - setting clear expectations, removing roadblocks, coaching your people, and building an accountable, high-performing team. You will also serve as the key liaison between the development team, the CTO, the executive team, and the wider company, translating business needs into well-managed work and communicating progress back in plain language. A solid grasp of business processes and hands-on familiarity with ERP systems round out what's needed to succeed.

Required Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in project management and/or leading teams, with a track record of delivering projects on time.
  • Strong, demonstrated project management skills - planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and driving work to completion across competing demands.
  • Proven people-leadership experience: managing, coaching, and developing a team, ideally a development or technical team.
  • Solid understanding of business processes and how they map to software and systems.
  • Hands-on familiarity with ERP systems (implementation, administration, or process ownership).
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate fluently between business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Understanding of secure and scalable software practices, and experience partnering with security or IT teams to uphold them.
  • Software development experience is a plus and may be required - enough to help the team manage new features and functionality, weigh technical options, and communicate effectively with developers.
  • Please note: the primary focus of this role is leadership, communication, and delivery rather than writing code day to day.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • Pre-employment background check, MVR and drug screening required.
  • Clean driving record with no major or excessive violations within the previous 3 years
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Management, or a related field.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP, Agile/Scrum) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting operations-heavy businesses such as manufacturing, agriculture, distribution, or retail.
  • Familiarity with Agile or other iterative delivery methods.
  • Hands-on software development experience is a strong plus, and may be required to help the team manage new features and functionality.
  • Experience working directly with executive leadership.
Location

This is an in-office position at our Charleston Headquarters with the potential for hybrid work 1-2 days per week.

  • Work with departments across the company to move feature requests and support tickets through our systems - from intake and prioritization to delivery and resolution.
  • Establish and continuously improve consistent, repeatable processes for how work is requested, tracked, and delivered.
  • Anticipate risks and dependencies, resolve bottlenecks, and hold the team and stakeholders accountable to commitments.
  • Lead, support, and develop the development team - setting clear expectations, removing roadblocks, and helping the team do their best work.
  • Set goals and provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance management to team members.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and retention as the team grows, and plan capacity to meet demand.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
  • Act as the central point of contact between the CTO, executive leadership, department stakeholders, and the development team.
  • Translate business needs, requests, and priorities into clear requirements the development team can act on.
  • Communicate development progress, timelines, risks, and trade-offs back to the CTO and executives in clear, non-technical terms.

  • Partner with the IT Security department to ensure code and systems are secure, follow best practices, and are built to scale with the business.
  • Schedule and coordinate periodic code audits, and drive follow-up on any issues or improvements identified.

  • Partner with operations, sales, finance, and other departments to identify needs and shape practical solutions.
  • Provide direction and oversight on ERP-related projects, enhancements, and integrations.
